Google Cloud announced general availability of an Anthropic-managed deployment option for Claude. It sits alongside the existing Google-managed option. Using the same model does not mean that the data processor or the timing of platform features is identical. Google Cloud official announcement
Anthropic acts as the data processor under its terms in the new option. The Google-managed option follows the existing Google Cloud contractual and management framework. Paying through Google Cloud therefore does not, by itself, make the two deployments equivalent security boundaries.

Why the data processor changes the review
An enterprise AI request can involve separate companies supplying infrastructure, developing the model, and operating the service. The data processor is the contractual party processing data on the customer’s instructions. A common billing channel does not merge those responsibilities. Before sending business records, identify which agreement governs the processing and which organization handles operational support, retention questions, and incident escalation.
Consider an internal document summarizer. Employees authenticate to the application, the application calls a model, and results may be stored in a database. Prompts can also appear in error traces. Review that entire path rather than examining the model endpoint alone. Record who operates each component and which retention and access rules apply to the original document, diagnostic data, and generated answer.
Model access and platform tools are separate decisions
The model produces an answer; surrounding platform tools may handle files, execute code, or coordinate an agent. Access to the same model does not establish identical support for those tools or identical execution conditions. A service that only summarizes text therefore needs a different evaluation from an agent that opens files and calls external systems during its work.
When tools can act, answer quality becomes only part of the review. Define the identity used by each task and restrict it to the repositories, storage locations, and external APIs required for that task. Permission to call a model should not imply permission to access every connected resource. This inventory creates a concrete baseline for comparing newly available platform capabilities.
A practical document-service evaluation
As a hypothetical evaluation, separate public-document summarization from summarizing internal personnel records. Quality and processing cost may lead the first comparison. The second requires reviewing processing agreements, document permissions, and sensitive data in logs before a production trial. Begin with sanitized test documents that exercise the same application path, rather than immediately uploading real employee or customer records.
Record the model, deployment option, enabled tools, processing region, and inspected log fields alongside each result. A failed request might reflect model behavior, a missing tool permission, or a network restriction; those require different remedies. Results from one data classification or one text-only task should not automatically authorize another classification or a tool-using agent.
Checks before moving traffic
- Review the processing agreement, subprocessors, and regional requirements.
- Map your current IAM, audit logging, and encryption controls to the proposed deployment.
- Move a limited set of production calls first and compare errors and latency.
An additional option does not require changing an existing deployment. Choose the model delivery arrangement that satisfies both the required features and your control requirements.
